August

August 15th, 2009

August! Time is flying by this year. The township has completed many of the projects contracted with the County Road Commission, 80 loads on gravel placed on the northern roads, ditching on Genaw and Plank roads, grading and chloride on the roads and mowing.

Water district 2A is completely installed and final clean up should be completed soon. Water districts 3 and 4 have gone thru the design phase, public hearings and permit process. With Board approval, bonds will be sold thru the County DPW again for this project mid September. These districts have a very aggressive build schedule and should be completed by year end with clean up in the spring and early summer.

We are still taking names for the planning commission as we have a vacancy. If you are interested in this position or wishing to see where you can get involved in your township, please call me or anyone in the office and we will get you connected.

I have been asked” what are you doing for the rest of the township?” All I hear about is water lines, gravel roads and ditches. My short answer is if you have a paved road, water, sewer, natural gas, cable, and storm drains. Some where in the last 75 years or so, someone took the time getting these improvements up and running. We maintain those water and sewer lines and some of those roads, we maintain and continue to upgrade a township park, we have all the boards, commissions and committees necessary to keep your township up to date and moving in the right direction.

No matter where you live in the township you are important. Everyone has shared needs such as fire protection however we are very diversified in our make up, some with every amenity out there to those who are a little more primitive. I have found there are many people who would not trade their location for anything. It is not our job to change anyone, we all need to live and work together and keep looking for the medium.

Stop by your township hall and say Hi, let us know how we are doing. It’s ok to say “hay you are all doing a great job” and know we are there to serve you. You can also contact at

Cottrellville Township recently held a first of it’s kind meeting, all board members, commissioners, committee members, inspectors, assessor, Department of public works, Legal and office staff was invited to sit down and share what each group is doing and share their goals and calendar of events with others. There were around 35 of the 49 total invited. This was a surprise to many just how many people are active in our townships business.

Of course we are still working on outstanding water line projects however we are also working on having parts of Nautical Lane and Shortcut RD seal coated. We are spreading 80 semi loads of gravel on our roads. We have two ditching projects signed for, one on Genaw RD. Just north west of Marsh RD. And the other a portion of Plank RD. West of Indian Trail. We had some cross road tubes’ collapse this winter that is being replaced along with mowing and tree removal from the ditches. We are in the process of replacing our computer system which has been plagued with problems. The board has taken the stance to be proactive not reactive on repairs and maintenance of township property.

The Planning Commission has completed a review of our current ordinances and is now working on a weed ordinance along with many other issues. Our Park’s and Recreation Dept. have a full schedule of events including a yard sale, Township picnic, Halloween party and many others so check the calendar you don’t want to miss a thing! The ball field is also ready for action so sign up now.

Our Zoning Board is making sure additions to the Townships landscape meet the standards set out in our master plan with an allowable tolerance. Our Historical society is working on a mural depicting the history of Cottrellville Township for the Board room wall along with assisting the Ottawa Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution plan a celebration in honor of a real daughter buried in Maple Grove Cemetery here in Cottrellville Twp.

We are a busy Township with a positive attitude. Check us out!

Our calendar can be viewed on our web site at http://www.cottrellvilletwp.org.
